Poetic Translations of Songs
351-400 by
Avadhutika Ánanda Gaorii Ac.

351

I became tired of calling you, Lord
and fell asleep
when suddenly you appeared in dream
and just as suddenly departed again.
I am not amused, Lord
with your fickle ways.

Now, if you come in dream
or during my waking state
I will tether you secretly
and never allow you
to desert me again.

352

Now I have attained the Ever New
I will never let Him go
I have captured that Supreme Charmer
within my mind
My delight knows no bounds
My heart exalts in joy.

A withered tree in an arid desert
has succumbed
to the brilliant radiance of emeralds.

I have realised he for whom I have longed
My life has borne fruit today.
I am lost in a stream of melody
drowned in ecstatic waves of total surrender
transported beyond the ocean of forms.
I am merged in this Supreme madness.
My mind freed from the cycles of life and death
knows no bounds.

353

Bathed in crimson rays
you came,
hearlding the new day.
To emancipate the earth you came,
forgetting the pain
inflicted by your own.

You are the jewel of my soul.
Can you ignore your child?
Can my heart's desire
remain far from home?

Insurmountable obstacles
with perseverence/patience
are overcome.

Sky castles
have become
the treasures of this dusty earth.

Mind's flower
cannot be contained within the mind
It is alive with smiles.

You have come
for the sake of all
to conquer all with your equanimity.

354

You make me oblivious, Lord,
endlessly entangled
in your inscrutable games.

Now, I want you alone.
I want to surrender
at your crimson feet.

Make me thy instrument
engage me in thy work.

Days pass
and my life is lived in vain.
I while away my time
in useless pursuits and sleep.

355

Dear Mother Earth
with soil more pure
than diamonds or jewels,
whom first I saw
upon coming to this world.

My mind is enamoured
with your exquisite hues.
In a hundred ways
you provide for me,
with simple sustenance
to quench my thirst,
with nectarial fragrance
to exalt my birth.

I shall serve you well
in this, my universal home.
I shall serve till
your emancipation
will tear asunder all bondage.

356

You do not know
the sorrow
of the fallen leaves.
You do not feel the pain
of my stream of tears.

I regale hearts
with forms of exquisite grace.
I exude sweet fragrance
and intoxicate my guests
with enchanting play.

Do not crush me in your negligence.
Forsake me not,
like a lonely bloom
bereft of nectar
in the desert of a desolate heart.

357

Your love is merely by word of mouth.
You heed not my earnest yearnings.

I search the deepest recess of my heart
with the teachings I have learnt from you
and yet
you make restless my mind
and in its turbid waters
you gleefully hide.

You arrange this festivity
of colour and form
and engage yourself therein,
smiling mischievously behind your sport.

Without a glimmer your grace, my Lord,
who can glimpse your mysterious face?

358

You came
with a gentle smile
on the refreshing fragrance
of a southern breeze.

I shall not forget you.
I shall keep your memory ever alive.
O king of my mind,
I shall worship you in my inner sanctum
and spread out your nectar
across the earth.

Be in my mind,
intoxicate me, lovingly.
O Lord of the world beyond idea
transport me to those realms.
Keep me ever at your feet
removing all shame and fear.

359

You do as you please.
We never question your ways.
You make us laugh,
you make us weep.
We see it all
with two sealed lips
and never say a word.

Why this creation,
we cannot understand.
Why chariots of destruction run,
we cannot comprehend your ways.
Why dark invades the light,
what cause behind this childish play,
we cannot know.

Why have you mended mute mouths
that they may glibly debate,
why have you crazed us with your science
and thereby shadowed your own existence
with our worldly ways.

Don't try to make us blind, O Lord,
don't fool us with your colourful games
of successive light and shade.

360

On a rain-drenched night
at a lonely site,
my friend deserted me.

What did that lightning flash portend
amidst such heavy rains?
The pearl necklace is gone;
my friend has deserted me.

My heart has been wrung
to its very core.
What consternation!
He has gone.

Thunder flickers on my eyelids;
it is a sign,
but I cannot fathom His design.
Ah, frustration!
He has gone,
devastating my life
and I yearn for His return.

Day and night
my lonley mind pines
for Him.
He has gone
and I yearn for His return.

361

All nature's creatures sleep at night.
Why does shiuli stay awake?
Mother, kindly tell me why.

All other flowers play by day
laughing and dancing in fragrant array
while around them black bees busily buzz
collecting their hidden delights.

I love too the day
as the flowers do
and so I know them well.
I know them all
so very well,
their colours and sweet smells.

The flowers and the puppies, all,
the black bees and the myna birds,
lay down their heads in sweet repose
during the dark of night.
Shiuli alone defys dusk's call
and proudly proclaims her special role,
"Look I am still awake!"

Kindly tell me mother why
shiuli's special ways?
Out of love for whom
she seranades the night
and shuns the light of day?

Listen close, my darling child
why shiuli loves the night.
She feels so shy in the light of day
and hides away her face.
Shiuli's precious petals fall
at the break of every dawn,
when you, my sweetest little one,
from deepest sleep awake.

362

Dawn's crimson rays
illuminate my eternal longing,
and I pour out songs
from the core of my being
for love
of the Ever-blissful One.

The rose-red sky radiates His presence.
The gentle breeze wafts His sweetness
through the expanses of my mind
as I contemplate
the Formless One.

I have surrendered all.
My heart overflows with joy.
Exalted on the strains of His sacred song
my ecstatic mind merges into
the Infinite One.

363

Flowers wither with the winds of time.
Mind gets despondent.
Tell me, Lord, why this kind of dispensation?
Why did you create this world?

Do you believe the afflicted dance
while crying in the scorching heat
of excruciating pain?

Do you think they long to survive while dying a living death?

I cannot comprehend why the multitudes still depend on You.
Is is so difficult for you, Lord,
to remove their sorrows
and fill their hearts with joy?

364

Which song do the birds keep singing today?
What do the black bees wish to convey?

At the peak of the rains torrential downs
the thunder boom its deep-horn sound,
and lightning flashes momentarily thrill, for whom?
Who makes my heart dance with the tunes of His flute?

O beautiful Lord of beauteous forms,
smeared with compassion
and adorned with sweet love,
appear before me today.

365

O formless Lord
for whom do you wait anxiously
in this temple of forms?

You entangle us in illusory love
for that which will not last long.
For these forms must merge
in your formlessness
through your grace.

Why did you so sportingly create
this colourful ephemeral world?
Its movement has its place, no doubt,
in your circular imaginative flow.

Yet why did you choose to delude our minds
who must ultimately merge in you.
Why did you create this temple of forms,
and for whom do you anxiously wait?

366

Inert humanity has awakened today.
Expression has come to its dumb mouth.
Beacons of light enliven it
and cast away dark staticity.

No looking back.
The eastern sky explodes into brilliant light
and births myriad flowers on the beaming earth.

Consciousness dawns in human minds
and the hypnotic spells of lethargy
of apathy, of soul-destroying vacuity,
have vanished out of sight.

367

On a gracious autumn eve you come
with the golden autumn moon,
bearing smiling sweet sephali blooms
and white endless floating clouds.

Laughing billowing waves of hilarious joy
through the groves of fresh "kash" grass.
Swaying vibrant rhythm in the depths of hearts
flashing joy in graceful dance,
you steal away the love from all
with your most endearing glance.

Your rosy feet are incomparable,
your gospels bathed in dew.
Your nectarial flow
and fragrant perfumes
bring tidings from celestial realms.

368

Pour out the contents of your basket
on this auspicious day of get-together.

Sing no more songs of pain
and lay aside
the miseries of by-gone days.
No longer be dismayed
like the timid forest deer.

Pour out your heart
in intoxicated bha'va*
to the Ever Blissful One.
Sing songs of melodies ever new
and fill your life with love.

The Thief Divine
steals the nectar of mind
in the silent stillness of night.
(*idea)

369

Tears welled in my eyes
for you, O heartless Lord.

I felt not to take your name
nor ask your grace,
but I discovered
that the world and all her life
exist because of you.

All expression starts in your mind,
all creation moves in you.
So I take your name,
I ask emancipation from you.

You have made me aware
that you are my nearest one.
So I constantly contemplate your holy name,
and I yearn to attain only you.

370

An unknown traveller arrives today
from the world of effulgence.

He comes with a new message
for all realms of this dark world.

Let's go to welcome him.
He'll announce the departure of our dark life.

Let us give him word
that we will not lag behind.
We too shall fight
to oust the evil force.

371

My longing remains bathed in ceaseless waves of tears,
longing hidden secretly in the depths of my mind.

My heart is broken, my mouth dumb.
I have cried and cried for you,
mind's dearest jewel
who disappeared one dark dreary night.

I have suffered unutterable pain,
shedding streams of copious tears.
Let me forget you.
Don't reappear, you,
who have forskaen me.

But alas, I cannot forget you.
I think of you again and again.
I try in vain to remove you from my mind.
Why don't you come
to replace the pangs of this loss
with the ecstatic joy of attainment.

371

Bathed in ceaseless waves of tears
remains, my longing,
secret, hidden deep in the caverns of mind.

My heart lies broken,
my mouth, dumb,
though I cry and I cry
for you, the one,
the dearest jewel of my mind
who disappeared
on a dark and dismal night.

I suffer unutterable pain
shedding silent streams of tears.
Let me forget you!
Don't reappear,
you who have forsaken me once.

But,
alas,
I cannot forget you.
I think of you
again and again
though I try in vain
to remove you from my mind.

Why don't you come?
Why don't you please
replace the pangs of this loss
with ecstatic/ unspeakable joy
of attainment/ of your presence.

372

O the pain I have suffered for you.
Do you not want to know?

You, rarest jewel of the sea-bed;
you, star of a distant sky.

Your heart comes not within my reach.
Diving deep into the ocean of form,
I will certainly realise you,
jewel-like formless one.

Floating in the limitless reaches of mind,
I will certainly attain you,
O distant star.
You shall one day come within my reach.
The sadhana of my enitre life will be fruitful.

The ocean of beauteous forms is approachable.
My heart's sky is filled with your existence.
That's why you have willingly deluded my grasp,
you can no longer make me forgetful;
you can delude me no more.

372

O, the pain I have borne!
Don't you want to know,
rarest gem of the sea bed,
star of a distant sky.

I strive to grasp your heart.
Diving deep into the ocean of form
I shall realise you,
jewel-like formless one.

In the limitless expanse of mind
I shall reach you,
star of a distant sky.

One day
you shall come within my ken/grasp,
the sadhana of my life
shall bear fruit.

I appraoch
the ocean of beauteous forms,
heart's sky alive
with your presence,
and yet
you elude me still.

O Lord, remove my forgetfulness,
delude me no more!

373

Who are you who came in my life today
causing a sensation?

Your advent is a flash of lightening,
like the radiance of a million jewels.

In my heart you smile
with the brilliance of innumerable hearts.
You fill the earth with the fragrance of flowers
and make me lose my identity in rapturous melody.

In a sweet honied flow of compassion,
you make me forget all sorrows and pains.
My life dances like a flowing fountain.
You intoxicate me with your indescribable beauty.

You began to love me suddenly
without knowing anything of me.
You dispell the cimmerian darkness with superb force.

Who are you who came into my life
causing a sensation in this universe?

373

In a flash of lightening
like the radiance of a million jewels
you arrived
causing a sensation in my life.

You smile in my heart
the brilliance of innumerable hearts.
You fill the earth
with floral fragrances
consuming my identity
in rapturous melodies.

You overpower my pain
in a stream of compassion sweet.
In a fountain-like dance
my life spins, entranced
with your indescribable beauty.

You began to love me
suddenly
without knowing anything of me
dispelling cimmerian dark
with superb force.

Who are you
who have arrived
causing a sensation in my life?

374

I don't want anything from you.
I simply want to love you.
Remain always with me and flash(?) a sweet smile at me.

When the southern spring breeze
wafts the fragrance of flowers,
I will sit beside you,
mingling my heart in you.

I will not accept anything,
even if you wish to give me.
I shall merge my life in you.
In the sweet moonlit night,
I will clasp your hand in mine.

I will walk beside you in exalted awareness.
I do not want anything,
I shall not accept anything.
Remain always with me
dispelling darkness from my life.

374

Flash your sweet, sweet smile.
Remain with me.
Dearest, I want only to love you.
Nothing more do I want from you.

When spring's southern breeze wafts
floral fragrances
I will sit by your side
mingling my heart in you.

I will not accept your gifts;
I shall merge my life in you.
In the sweet moonlit night
I shall clasp your hand in mine
and walk beside you in exalted awareness.

I want nothing else;
I will accept nothing more.
Remain with me always
dispelling darkness from my life.

375

Colourful clouds beckon to me.
How can I stay in doors?

The peacock of my mind
with its tail outspread
longs to dance in the blue void.

I want to sing the songs of breaking cycles.
I wish to remove the artificial boundaries around me.

My mind rushes to a distant horizon,
the limitless void,
leaving aside the crude boundaries around me.

That supreme entity sends his call
always to me
through the light rifts in colourful clouds.
I cannot ignore that call.
What a great consternation!

375

Colourful clouds beckon me.
How can I stay indoors?

Mind's peacock
tail in full-spread splendour
dances on the shores of the limitless blue sea.

Singing songs of breaking cycles,
I shall traverse all false boundaries,
rushing mind towards the distant void
dissolving crude bonds in infinitude.

The Supreme One calls
through rifts in colourful clouds.
What an obligation!
I cannot ignore Him.

376

A lotus of shining gold has bloomed today on this earth,
spreading its sweet fragrance all around
to regale my heart and mind.

Come unto me, sweet fragrance floating in the breeze.
Come and see, black bees plunder all pollen.
My restless heart cannot be assuaged.
Look all and see how determined is he to love.

My eyes are downcast with their diffident love.
Bring that lotus unto my heart.
All the honey of my life overflows
with the thought of that supreme one.

376

A lotus
of shining gold
blooms forth today
in the garden of this earth.

Sweet pervasive fragrance
regaling my heart
charming my mind
come unto me
in a friendly floating breeze.

See
the black bees
steal her nectar!
O restless heart
which cannot be assuaged,
see
how determined is he
to love.

With eyes
diffident
downcast
I cry for you
lotus of my heart.

With your thought
Supreme
the honey of my life
overflows.

377

You came today, O Lord of my mind.
You came today to churn my inner most being
and bind tight my heart.

All beauty is your beauty.
All radiate your effulgence.
You illuminated the ideative world of the living.
You poured sweetness into creation
which incarnated as your forms.

Before you, neither was there bha'va
nor an entity beyond the world of idea.

The three worlds revolved not in the flow of creation.
There was neither existence nor non-existence.
There was neither microcosm nor even this vast cosmos.
There was neither day nor night.

There was only you ever there,
immeasurable, self-created.

377

You came today
Lord of mind
to churn my inner most being
and bind tight my heart.
All beauty is your beauty,
all radiate your light.

You illuminate
the living ideative world
and incarnate sweetness
into creative delight.

Before you
there was neither entity
nor idea.
The three worlds revolved not
in existence
nor non-existence.

There was neither microcosm
nor vast macrocosm,
there was neither day nor night.

There was only you alone
immeasurable
self-created.

378

Lives have past in expectation of your advent,
yet none of my hopes have been realised.

None have come whom I longed for.
They have thronged in my mind
whom I never called.

All love, appearances and passings have drifted
on causing a rift between the present and the past.

While walking in the flower garden,
thorns pricked my feet.
In the whirl wind,
I savoured/sensed a sweet southern breeze.

My hopes are illusive mirages.
Only your two rosy feet remain
as the last refuge
of my despondent heart.

378

Lives have passed
in expectation of your advent,
yet my hopes remain
unrealised.

None have come
whom I longed for.
They have thronged in my mind
whom I never called.

All my love,
all my comings and goings
have drifted on
causing a rift
between the present and the past.

While walking in the flower garden
thorns pricked my feet.
In a whirlwind
I savour
a sweet southern breeze.

My hopes are illusive mirages.
Only your crimson feet remain,
the last refuge
of my despondent heart.

379

You came not in the early partof my life.
I cannot blame you for that.

I did not search for you
and so my repentent heart burns.

You were so close yet I called you not.
My days and nights have passed in vain.
The more I recall in the twilight of my life,
the more pain I feel.

All come to this earth for a limited time to work,
and yet, we waste our time is useless pursuits.
No use to blame the Lord for this.

379

You came not
in my early life,
yet, you are not to blame.

I did not seek you;
my repentent heart burns.

You were so close
yet I called you not.

My days and nights have passed in vain.
The more I recall
in the twilight of my life,
the more I feel pain.

All come to the earth
for an alotted time
to complete a work,
and yet,
we waste our time
in useless pursuits.

We cannot blame the Lord
for this.

380

Golden lotus, I want you to remain
entrenched in my heart
and make everything glitter.

Don't remain far from me.
Stay in my heart in rhythm and melody.

Sweet lotus, exude proudly your sweet fragrance,
manifest yourself more.

I feel I have known you,
but I am not sure of it.
You are so close, yet you elude me.

It seems I have attained you,
yet I am not sure of it.
You are so sportive,
you, so very pure, so immaculate.

You are like the golden lotus of my mind.

380

Golden lotus
remain ever a flower in my heart,
illuminate my world.
Do not depart,
stay in rhythmic melody,
stay in my heart.

Sweet lotus
exude proudly your fragrance,
manifest yourself more.

I feel I know you,
but I am not sure.
You are so close,
yet elude me still.

Perhaps I have attained you,
but I am not sure.
You are so sportive,
so immaculate, so pure.

You are the golden lotus
of my mind/heart.

381

You have come without notice.
Come closer still and sit by me.

I beseech you to play your flute
in dance and rhythm.

I have listened for your foot fall,
I have waited anxiously night and day
since immemorial time.

At last you have come in spring
with your gentle smile
dispelling all my afflictions.

The breeze blows a sweet, silent whisper.
My heart is intoxicated in vibrant contemplation.

You have come today
O Lord of the universe.
Your blissful touch
has made the world resound anew.

381

You have come without notice.
Come closer still and sit by me.

Play your flute,
I beseech you, (please)
in dance and rhythmic melodies.

I have listened for your footfall
I have waited anxiously day and night
since immemorial time.

At last you have come, in spring
your gentle smile dispelling my afflictions.
A sweet breeze whispers silently.

In contemplation
my vibrant heart is entranced.

You have come today
Lord of the universe
Your blissful touch
vibrates/resounds the world anew.

382

Come O Lord, come O distant friend, come near.
The lotus of my mind is in full bloom
filled with pollen waiting for you.

I have kept my stainless lotus in turbid streams.
It is waiting for your rosy feet.

My lotus, full of fragrance, is meant for you alone.
Come, O friend of the distance, come closer to me.

I have kept my white sparkling lotus amidst chilly winds,
radiant with the beauteous rays of the sun.

My lotus filled with nectar awaits you.

382

Come lord,
come distant friend,
come near.

The full bloom lotus of my mind
rich in fragrant pollen
awaits you.

Stainless bloom of turbid streams
awaits your crimson feet.
She awaits you alone.

Come distant friend
come closer to me.

My sparkling white lotus
amidst chilly winds
radiates the sun's brilliant rays.

Full of nectar sweet
she awaits you.

383

Today all realised the real you/
made a new acquaintance of you.

The providential games,
the divine sports of this universe
are nothing but you.

You are the nave of the cosmic cycle.
You are the holy sound full of rhythm.
You are the supreme object of love.
You are the friend of all at all times.

You hide yourself in everything,
you remain ever prepared
to be attained by all.
You remain hidden
in the secret corners of every mind.

You are full of incomparable,
unparalleled sweetness,
with your brilliant radiance
and spell of beauteous forms.

You are always ready to exchange hearts.

383

Today all have realised you,
the universal player of providential games,

You, eternal friend,
hide in everything
awaiting to be attained.

You hide in the secret depths of mind
brilliant, incomparable,
enchanting spell of beauteous forms.

You are ever ready to exchange hearts/
to share your love.

384

Amidst attainments days pass away in fruitless action.
Sometimes I attain something, sometimes I don't.
Sometimes I feel happy and sometimes sad.

Black bees buzz around the flowers
in expectant anticipation.
You are the dearest of all.
You remain in the inner most heart hidden,
unknown to all.

We fail to seek you within,
but look for you outside,
just like the musk deer search for their own fragrance.

We blindly move around those
who won't stay here long,
expecting something permanent.

Destroy my illusion.
Take me closer to you.
Draw me to you and keep me close.

384

Amidst moments of attainment
time is whiled away in fruitless activity.
I attain; I fail to attain.
I am happy; I am sad.

Around the flowers
black bees buzz
in anxious/expectant anticipation.
You, the dearest of all
remain hidden in the inner most heart,
unknown.

We search for you madly
like a musk deer
externally seeking its own fragrance.

We fail to look/seek within.
We blindly hold on
to those who won't stay long
hungry for the permanent.

Destroy my illusion!
Draw me closer to you.
Keep me/bind me forever my your side.

385

Everything in this universe is bathed in your light,
in your compassionate love
and resounds with your melody.

Everything is tinged with your colour
and vibrates with your divine melodies of soft mystic songs.

You remain beyond our ken,
on the far side of a dark curtain.
Yet your sweet nectarlike effulgence
radiates in waves, inundating us.

What is this unique sport of yours?
Things are painted with light and shade,
yet, from far beyond your veil of seclusion and silence,
your resonant melody rings out to us, again and again.

The wheels of your chariot move with that melody,
regaling the hearts
and intoxicating the minds of all.

385

The universe is enveloped in your light
bathed in your compassionate love
resounds with your melody.

All are tinged with your colour
and vibrate with the rhythmic sweetness
of your divine mystic songs.

You remain beyond our ken,
on the far side of a dark curtain
radiating nectar-like effulgence,
in intoxicating waves.

What is this unique sport of yours?
The world is painted in light and shade
yet, from far beyond your silent veil,
your melodies ring out
again and again.

The wheels of your chariot
move in time
intoxicating the/our minds of all.

386

After so long my friend has come
illuminating this dark room.

He has come in eloquent joy-intoxicating dance
and sweet exuberant delight
to win the hearts of all.

The beauteous forms of the formless Lord
overflow all limitations of forms.

I can't understand his play,
how just his very name
brings waves of nectarial bliss to this earth.
Human hearts overflow in joy.

He is the sole repository of universal life.
My friend regales all hearts.
The Lord of music comes to vibrate all
with lively melody and rhythm.

386

After long my friend has come
illuminating this dark room.

He comes in eloquence
in joy-intoxciating dance
in exuberant delight
to win the hearts of all.

The beauteous waves
of the formless Lord
break through the boundaries of form.

I cannot comprehend his play;
his very name brings bliss to this earth.
My friend, the repository of universal life
regales all hearts
which overflow with joy.

The Lord of melody
vibrates/fills/inundates the world
with his vital/vibrant rhythm.

387

Lord, will you never come within our easy reach?
How long shall we yearn for you?
Is there no end to our anxious expectation of your advent?

Buffeted by waves of illusion and delusion,
we have lost all the sweet fragrant pollen of mind.
We lie strewn like fallen flowers.
We know not what the future holds.
We have wasted our time running after mirages.
We have pursued the ephemeral.

Catch hold of my hand and turn me around.
Don't allow me to be misguided by the spell of delusion.

387

Lord, will you ever come within our easy reach?
How long shall we yearn for you?
Will our anxious expectation know no end?

Buffeted by spells of illusion and delusion
we have lost the sweet fragrant pollen of mind.

We lie strewn like fallen flowers.
We know not what the future holds.
We have wasted our time running after mirages.
We have pursued the ephemeral.

Catch hold of my head/(hand?) and turn me round.
Don't allow me to succumb to delusion.

388

In a flood of light
the river descends,
playing its eternal game
of building and unbuilding,
flowing endlessly on.

It moves forever forward,
babbling on.
It stops not at any obstacle;
it heeds not day or night.
Its movement is dance,
its language incessant song.

Mingling into the surging waves
of universal life,
it becomes a vast ocean.

388

In a flood of light
the river flows on
playing its eternal game
creating and destroying
endlessly.

It moves ever ahead
babbling on, babbling on.
stopping not at any block
heeding neither night nor day.

Its movement is dance;
its language incessant song.
Merging with the surging waves
of universal life,
it becomes an ocean.

389

In a flower garden a black bee buzzes,
whispering something.
She desires only the flowers' nectar,
shunning all else.
She sucks nectar to its lees,
that treasure secluded with utmost care, secretly,
in the inner most recesses of floral buds.

She has exposed herself,
thief of the pollen's sweet fragrance,
fragrance which has vanished
along with its rich nectarial source.

She has coated herself in thick fragrant pollen
and, thus adorned, announces the news to all.

389

In a garden
a black bee buzzes
whispering.

She seeks only nectarial delight
shunning all other joy.

The flower's secret store
hidden with utmost care
in the inner most recess of its heart,
she enjoys to the lees.

She exposes herself,
thief of floral perfumes.

The fragrance has vanished
with the flower's nectarial heart
and the black bee
adorned with thick fragrant pollen
proudly announces the news to all.

390

Lord, just a touch of your grace
will be enough
to dispell the dust of my mind.

Graciously you shower upon the earth
the radiance of your exquisitely beauteous forms.
Water currents swell upstream
in joy-intoxicated resonance.

The Lord of mind removes all its dirt and dross.
Graciously you flood the earth with nectarial streams.

The flow of creation, lost in itself,
will accept the unknown
as the sole desideratum life.

Lord of mind,
remove the last vestige of my impurity.

390

Lord, just a touch of your grace
will be enough
to dispell the dust of my mind.

You grace cascades
the radiance of beauteous forms
upon earth.

In resounding joy
her waters overflow
and the Lord of mind
removes its dross and dirt.

You grace her with nectarial streams.
Creation, lost in itself,
accepts the unknown goal.

The Lord of mind
removes
my last vestige of impurity.

391

Tears have drenched the garland woven for you.
The sun has set.
Evening has descended.

Words unexpressed retreat into mental oblivion.
He promised to come, but he has gone.
Ages have passed, but my friend has not returned.
Drowsiness has overtaken me.
Night has descended.

Is it that He doesn't understand my sorrows and pain.
Those who come, come to leave again.
Those who go, go with the promise to return.

My friend is hidden everywhere,
in all ages and in all lands.
In all words he hears everything.

391

Tear-drenched
his unworn garland lies.
The sun retires
and the world is enveloped by night.

Words unuttered
retreat into mental oblivion.

He promised to come
but ages have passed
and my friend has not returned.
Drowsiness overtakes me
with encroaching night.
Perhaps he feels not
my painful plight.

He who comes,
comes to leave again.
He who departs,
parts with the promise to return.

My friend is hidden
in all ages, in all lands.
In all sounds he hears
all cries.

392

Mind's peacock spreads out its wings,
upon seeing black clouds afloat beside the moon.

The chords of my life
resound in exuberant delight.
My stolen heart has been returned.
Lost melodies have beem revived.

Mind intoxicating,
heart regaling, joyous vibrations
rend assunder the blue sky.

In lost melodies the body and mind dance;
with the return of lost ideas,
the heart overflows.

The basket of my life is overturned.
A sweet breeze wafts,
carrying the fragrance of flowers.

392

The peacock of mind
spreads wide its wings
upon seeing black clouds
afloat by the moon.

In delight
the chords of my life
resound.
My stolen heart
returns.

Lost melodies
are revived.
Currents of joy
vibrate
the blue sky,
intoxicating mind.

In lost melodies renewed
body and spirit dance.
With lost ideas returned
the heart overflows.

The basket of my life
is overturned.
A sweet breeze wafts/transports
fresh floral perfumes.

393

You are as tender as a lotus flower
and as severe as a thunder bolt.
I have understood this supreme truth.

You are fragrant with
sandle paste of the Malaya mountain.
You are more attractive than the garden of paradise.
I have beheld this beautiful sight.

Reflected in the dark water of evening,
golden light shimmers.
Reflected in our minds,
in hearts laden with agony and pain,
your stream of nectar dances.

When you are refelcted in meditation,
all the three worlds dance in rhythm intoxicated with your melody.
I have realised this truth.

No thought is equal to the thought of you.
You are Supreme,
above all else in beauty and majesty.

I have accepted this Supreme Truth.

393

Tender as a lotus flower
severe as roaring thunder,
this Supreme Truth
I have realised.

Fragrant as the sandal paste
of Malayan mountain heights
more glorious than the garden of paradise,
this beauteous sight
I have beheld.

Reflected in the evening's dark streams
a shimmering golden light.
Reflected in our minds
in hearts heavy with sorrow and pain
your current of nectarial delight.

In the depths of meditation
your reflection excites
the three worlds to dance
in melodious trance.
I have/realised lived this joy/truth.

No thought is equal
to the thought of you.
You are Supreme,
unparalelled in beauty and majesty.
I surrender to you./ to your truth.

With the southern breeze,
with the fragrance of flowers,
who is the entity who smiles in my mind?

In floral pollen, with love and attachment,
it is his image which flashes in all actions.

O Lord do not forget to come in my abode.
Come and stay always in my living memory.
Let there be honey in the flower bud of my mind.
With that floral nectar I will please you.

Don't forget your divine songs O Lord.
You songs are like thunderbolts
in storms and tempests.

Let there be,
fragrant pollen always
ever-new in the flower's heart.

394

With the southern breeze
with the fragrance of flowers
who is the entity
who smiles in my mind?

In floral pollen
with love and attachment
his image emerges
in every action.

O Lord
do not forget
to come to my abode.
Come, stay always with me
remain ever vibrant in my memory.

Let ambrosia overflow
in the flower bud of mind.
With that delectible wine
shall I give you joy.

Sing ever, Lord, your songs divine
like thunder resounding
in tempests wild.
Let your sweet nectar
eternally renew
in every flower heart.

395

On the Blue Sea a golden lotus bloomed.
No one knew.

Its scarlet petals no one touched (remained untouched).
Full of vivacity,
its vital golden pollen
exuded delectible floral nectar.
And yet, no black bees approached
to hover lightly
and savour her bounty.

A colourful fairy from the land of clouds
was enamoured of the beauty of the lotus.
Clutching the golden lotus to her heart
away she flew.

Nobody knew, no one paid heed to it.

395

On the Blue Sea
a golden lotus bloomed.
Her scarlet petals
unbeknown
to any soul.

In the splendour of full life
her vital golden pollen
exuded delectible perfume
and yet,
the black bees alighted not
to savour her bounty.

A colourful fairy
from the land of clouds
fell in love with that golden bloom
and clutching the lotus to her heart
away she flew.
No one knew.

396

The colourful fairy flys far to an unknown land.
Clutching the golden lotus to her breast,
she flys high into the blue sky
to a far off land.

The atmosphere becomes lighter.
The realm of clouds fades away.
The fairy flys, ever increasing speed.

She crosses the boundaries of fairy land.
The stars glitter more brightly here,
and the moon is smiles more than before.
The fairy will dedicate this flower to her God.

396

Far, far away
she flew
to an unknown home
holding the golden lotus bloom
tightly to her breast.

High, high
into the tall blue sky
where the air
is more rare
and the realm of clouds
disappears.

Faster and faster
to her enchanted land
where the stars glitter more brightly
and the moon smiles more strong.

She will offer the delicate flower
to her God.

397

The Lord who steals vanity
never tolerates anyone's vanity.
If one is proud and vain,
one is bound to be defeated.

Two princes set out
to capture the theif of the golden lotus.
They hoped to be victorious.
They surrounded the blue sea
with boats, ferries, sampans
and all variety of local craft.

They were sure of catching the flower stealer and exposing the fairy's evil tricks.

But their minds and hearts were full of vanity.
They were not aware
that God was mysteriously smiling at their vanity.

The fairy carried magic arrows,
and managed to steal away the flower
without the least fear.

397

The Divine Thief of vanity
tolerates not arrogance and pride.
For the vain
defeat is preordained.

Two proud princes
in hope of victors' glory
set out to capture
the lotus thief.

With boats and ferries
and a host of craft
they openly surrounded the shining Blue Sea.

They were egotistically sure
of ensnaring their prey
and exposing her cunning ways.

But God was intent on foiling their pride.
The clever fairy
armed with magic spears
outwitted the princely team.

She succeeded, the coveted bloom to steal
without the least inkling of fear.

398

Sleep, drowsiness, anger, lethargy,
procrastination and fear are the six enemies
of human kind, powerful vices.

Even great personalities may be degraded by these,
what to speak of common people.

The princes after being outwitted by the fairy set out to an unknown destination.
They began to search for a magic horse
without which it was impossible to catch the fairy.
Inflated with royal vanity,
they didn't heed the needs of suffering human beings.
They couldn't win the love of their hearts.

They lost their common sense due to the spell of vanity.
They lost their intellect,
and were finally tricked into defeat in their quest, and they became captives of the demon.

They languished away in a dark prison cell.

398

Sleep, drowsiness
anger, lethargy
fear, procrastination
are the six enemies of human kind,
-- powerful vices.

Great personalities
may succumb to these,
what to speak
of common folk.

To unknown lands
the outwitted princes
set out in search
of a magic horse
to ensure the capture of the fairy thief.

But their royal pride
heeded not the pleas
of needy folk
whose love they could not win.

Due to vanity
they lost their sense
and fell captive
to a demon king.

In his dungeon cell
they sadly bemoaned
their hopeless/painful plight
each passing day.

399

Due to honesty, simplicity and spiritedness,
ordinary human beings become extra ordinary.

The youngest prince was graced with these qualities.
He too set out to catch the fairy.
He went to the Blue Sea
and set up ever-vigilant sentries
around the lotus grove.

He spent a sleepless night,
watching over the blooming flower.
At the end of the night,
the fairy came,
nervously plucked the lotus
and flew away.

To catch the fairy, that magic horse was needed.
The young prince moved heaven and earth
in search of that magic horse. Finally he came to the land of the demon
and discovered the horse.

He captured that capricious creature
with the love of all the needy folk
whose hearts he had won.

Due to the righteous auspicious wish of his own
and righteous intelligence,
the dishonest demon finally admitted
that human beings
are not inferior to demons in valour.

399

Honesty, simplicity and dynamicity
make ordinary humans extra great/ordinary,
and the youngest prince was thus was graced.

He too undertook
the flower theif to catch.

On the Blue Sea
around the lotus grove
he posted vigilant sentries.

A sleepless night he spent
guarding the precious bloom,
but alas,
in the early morn
the clever fairy
stole his charge
and away she flew.

He needed the magic horse
the fairy thief to catch
and he moved heaven and earth
in his search.

At last, in the demon's land
he discovered the capricious steed,
and with the special help
of the needy folk
whose hearts, through service, he had won
he captured it.

The demon succumbed
and from the depths of his own righteous heart
acknowledged the strength and valour
of his human kin.

In the dreamland of the Blue Sea,
the golden lotus has bloomed again.
The waters of the Blue Sea vibrate with joy.
Under the spell of heart-felt joy,
it smiles its sweetest smile.

In the moonlight full of the fragrance of the lotus,
the breeze floats along to an unknown destination
to search out and convey the news to hearts lost in that aroma.

The fairy, in her mysterious, sportive way,
aproaches in spiralling movements
to pluck the lotus.

The young prince sits on the magic horse.
The fairy finally descends on the lotus.
and clutching the flower,
she flys away.

The prince chases the fairy.
The fairy, almost overpowered,
now trembles in fear
and frantically flaps her wings
to apologise repeatedly for her mistake.

The prince states firmly
that such an act is unacceptable.
The prince points out
that God cannot be worshiped with a stolen flower.

Do honest deeds,
follow the honest path, he commends.

400

In the pleasing/pleasant waters
of the Blue Sea of dreams
a golden lotus blooms.

The ocean currents joyously vibrate
and the lotus,
in a trance of delight
smiles its sweetest smile.

In the full moon light
her fragrance floats
wistfully
far and wide
to conveys the news of her blossoming
to aroma-intoxicated hearts.

The fairy
in her mysterious play
descends to pluck the bloom.

The young prince
upon his magic steed
vigilant
in hiding awaits.

When the fairy escapes
with the golden flower
clutched tightly to her breast
he gives victorious chase.

She shivers her wings
and trembles in fear
and begs forgiveness for her deed.

The prince admonishes
and makes it clear
that with a stolen bloom
one cannot worship God.

Do noble deeds
and follow an honest path
he commends.

401

The earth today is exuberant with delight,
with rhythmic dance and enchanting melody.
Melodies of by-gone days intoxicate all.

Adorning your eyes with collerium,
draping garlands around your neck,
fill your flower baskets with fragrant flowers.

Colour everyone with the hues of your heart
and perfume your surroundings
with the fragrance of marigolds.

Hearts overjoyed in the festival of lights,
embrace one and all.
Attaining the Supreme Entity,
the pollen of mind is ecstatic with joy.
